Connecting With Confidence Through Business Transitions

When your business hits a season of transition, everything can feel messy, uncertain, and a little scary. In this episode of the Kindly Confident Marketing Podcast, I share my personal experiences navigating a major shift in my business and how creative small business owners can move through change with grace, honesty, and connection.

Transitions are normal and often messy
I attended Ag Media Summit, an event that’s been part of my professional life for 15 years, and how attending this year felt like a “closing ceremony” for one chapter of my business as I pivot from primarily the agriculture space to serving creative small business owners. Feeling unsure, grieving old goals, and questioning “what’s next” is all part of the process (well, my process at least).

Self-awareness over external validation
When our goals change, it can be emotional to see long-time aspirations no longer fit. For example, I realized that awards or titles I once really wanted aren’t going to be accomplished. Let yourself feel those feelings and remember that alignment matters more than chasing outdated measures of success.

Relationships are the cornerstone of marketing
Even during transition, relationships are everything. Every current client of mine has come through someone I know. The power of relational marketing is strong! Podcasting is a way to build deeper connections and authentic visibility.

Be honest about where you are
There’s no need to hide your transition. I was open about my pivot even at Ag Media Summit. I updated my business cards to reflect my new direction, and continued to invite people into my work. Because marketing is simply letting others know you can help. Nobody can come to a party they don’t know about!

There’s no final “there”
“The other side” of transition isn’t a fixed destination. Even the most accomplished people feel like they haven’t “arrived.” I’m finding that what matters most is making aligned, self-aware decisions and taking small, kind steps towards the business I want.

Podcast tip of the week
Feeling like the podcast space is crowded in your area? I’ve got two ways to make your podcast stand out: Lean into your unique perspective, and try adding segment-style content that highlights what’s distinct about you.

Transitions may feel wobbly, but they are seasons of growth. Be honest, keep building relationships, and remember to treat yourself with kindness as you take the next small step in your business journey.
